Beautiful illuminations near you

s-R0010715 (2)

Since around middle of November, we can see Christmas illuminations decorating on streets. If you would like to experience a dreamy atmosphere, you can visit there on foot from the Hotel Sunlite.

Shinjuku is always bright by the light of signboards, and it seems to become more lively by Christmas illuminations at this time.

We all wish you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and
we look forward to meeting you Next Year !

au petit boulangerie

We are often asked by hotel guests if there were a good place to eat near
the hotel. It is the middle of Tokyo Shinjuku here, we can recommend you
nice Sushi, Tempura, Ramen, Udon, Teppanyaki, Okonomiyaki, Shabu-Shabu,
Kobegyu, Chinese Restaurants, Italian Restaurants, etc…etc…

However, some guests seem they don’t want to go out even 10minutes’ walk
to restaurants, because they might be tired after long long flight and
visiting unknown place.

Let’s leave Sushi and Tempura for the next day.
I suggest you a good bakery which can go with five steps from the hotel,
and good for coffee lovers too.

●s-R001

They have not only some simple baguets, bagels, muffins, doughnuts,
sandwiches and also bread with herb chicken on top,
fish fillet with tartar sauce sandwich, raspberry coconut bagel,
sweet red bean dough, green tea bread
and many other kind of breads and buns.
Have you ever heard a burdock with mayonnaise salad roll?
and those are all yummy!

●s-R002

Why don’t you take out some freshly-baked bread with some cup of coffee,
and relax and eat them in your room?

The bakery is called ” CHIISANA  PANYA-SAN “,  just next to the Sunlite Hotel.

TOKYO SKYTREE, the highest tower in the world

If you are interested in towers in the world, you should not miss the chance to visit TOKYO SKYTREE, the tallest tower in the world. Although it’s hard to get a ticket to go up to the Observation Deck, it’s still possible if you don’t mind waiting for a few hours. “Day Ticket” can be purchased on the day at the “TOKYO SKYTREE 4th floor Ticket Counter”. Since the day ticket has no time assigned, you may have to wait for a few hours to enter, and in the event of serious congestion, sales of day tickets may be suspended. ( Although you can make advance reservations through  TOKYO SKYTREE Web Ticket, the link will be Japanese language only and credit cards issued in Japan are required to make a reservation, which must be confusing.)  Even if you have to wait for a few hours, the shopping mall “Tokyo Solamachi” around the tower will never make you feel bored. http://www.tokyo-solamachi.jp/english/

It takes about 40 minutes including walking time from our hotel to Oshiage Station on the Asakusa Station where the tower is located. If you still don’t have any plan, why don’t you visit there ?

The fashion capital of the world

If you are still deciding where in Tokyo you should visit, Harajuku is one of the most recommendable places. It is the center of Japan’s most extreme teenage cultures and fashion styles, but also offers shopping for adults and some historic sights. And the variety of fashion styles displayed there on Sunday is worth seeing.

Gwen Stefani, a musical giant, got huge inspiration from there and even made a few songs, which are featured in her debut solo album 〝Love. Angel. Music. Baby.”

Harajuku district is in front of JR Harajuku Station, which is two stops from JR Shinjuku Station on Yamanote Line, or you can walk there from Meiji-Jingu station on Fukutoshin Line, which is two stops from Shinjuku Sanchome station located just across the street from our hotel.

It won’t take time to visit there, but it may change your image of Tokyo.

Why don’t you enjoy cruising?

Hello, everyone.

What we introduce today is a small trip, which connects two popular sites, Asakusa and Odaiba.
These two sites, bustling with foreigners, are connected by cruisers sailing down the Sumida River. If you go to Odaiba by train, it may feel rather far, but this small trip by cruiser will let you forget distance and time.

Many of you should be familiar with these two spots, but if you are not, please access here.

From our hotel to Asakusa, it takes about 35minutes including walking time. We recommend that you take Oedo Line from Higashi-Shinjuku Station to Ueno-Okachimachi station and walk to Ueno-Hirokoji Station on the Ginza Line, which will take you to Asakusa Station.

Cruiser fare from Asakusa to Odaiba is detailed here.

We hope this information will help you to enjoy your stay in Japan.

AIKIDO

Hello, everyone.

This time we’d like to introduce you to a self defense art, “AIKIDO”
AIKIDO is a martial art developed throughout the mid 20th century by a Japanese named Morihei Ueshiba, and now it is being spread to more than 95 countries. Unlike Jyudo or Karate, it’s not aggressive. It is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attacker rather than opposing it head-on. As the aikido practitioner leads the attacker’s momentum using entering and turning movements, very little physical strength is required. So it can be performed as a lifelong martial art, regardless of gender or age, and a lot of elderly people are joining trainings for healthy exercise or recreation.
It also has a spiritual aspect that may help you to improve your life. Aikido’s ultimate goal is “to attain the realistic state of mind by harmonizing with the natural or universal laws”, which may be realized through trainings.

The AIKIKAI Hombu Dojo is 5minutes walk from Wakamatsu Kawada Station on the Oedo Line, which is just one stop from one of the closest stations to the hotel, Higashi-Shinjuku Station.

http://www.aikikai.or.jp/eng/index.htm

If you are a member of Aikikai and interested in practicing there, please make use of our hotel. Even if you are not a member, it is possible to watch Regular or Beginner’s classes at any time.

About our traditional custom called “Hanami”.

Hanami “flower viewing” is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers,“flower” in this case almost always meaning cherry blossoms or plum blossoms.

From the end of March to early May, sakura bloom all over Japan.

In modern-day Japan, “hanami” mostly consists of having an outdoor party beneath the Sakura during daytime or at night.

Hanami at the night is called “Yozakura”(literally night sakura).

A more ancient form of hanami also exists in Japan, which is enjoying the plum blossoms instead.

This kind of hanami is popular among older people, because they are more calm than the sakura parties,

which usually involve younger people and can sometimes be very crowed and noisy.

Some points of “hanami” from our hotel are
Hanazono Jinja (Shrine)

The Hanazono Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in east side of Shinjuku and It is very close from our hotel.

This shrine was founded in the middle of 17th century.

The main building is currently under renovation, though activities still continue inside.

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

A former private family residence, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is now a public park and is famous for its beautiful landscaped gardens and cherry trees which bloom from late March to early April.

The gardens are split into the three styles of French Formal, English Landscape and Japanese traditional and cover an area of almost 60 hectares.
